Mele Ho‘oipoipo

The title means "song of the cat". I like the way the warm hues of my calico cat match the warmth of the koa ukulele. I enjoy painting Hawaiian still life, and have added a lauhala basket, a kukui nut lei, a plumeria lei, a vase with kukui nit tree leaves and blossoms, my paniolo hat draped with lei, and Hawaiian sheet music and books. I always like to add whimsy, so I have my popoki (cat) playing with my half-strung plumeria lei. As a watercolor artist, I have to say that my favorite parts of this painting are the cat's eyes and the wonderful blend of color on her haunches. It is a painting composed primarily of blue and orange, complimentary colors.
