'Oli 'Oli

Oli Oli incorporates some of my favorite subject matter as a painter. I love old Hawaiian sheet music, and Nona Beamer wrote the old song Oli Oli, meaning Joyous, Joyous. The instruments were photographed on a table in Maui when I was visiting my dear friend Keola Beamer, the most talented slack key songwriter and performer in Hawaii. The instruments pictured are the bamboo and gourd nose flutes, cowrie shells, and smooth Hawaiian rocks. The lei draped across the instruments and music are haku.
