Beached Bum

If you're lucky enough, you'll get to experience the sight of one of Hawaii's monk seals taking a nice snooze on a beach of its choice. Once a Hawaiian monk seal chooses his sleeping spot, law says that you cannot approach within 100 feet. Most people think that they're dead, but they're sound asleep, and it's a thrill to watch them turn onto their backs and wave a little flipper! The Hawaiian monk seal is an endangered species and is fortunately making a come back in recent years as evidenced by the number of sightings of our "beached" friends.
