Evening Catch

The puolo was used in ancient Hawaii to wrap food and gifts. Fortunately, the practice has been revived and food is often presented in this manner at private luaus. Flower lei are also presented in the puolo, which is generally made of ti leaves. I love painting the colorful Hawaiian fish and enjoy the complementary colors of the red of the fish and the green of the ti leaves. I especially enjoyed painting the net, which was a fun exercise in negative painting, forming the webbing by painting the black after painting the net.
