'Ulu

The ulu is perhaps the most valuable fruit found in Polynesia. It is known as breadfruit, and is the plant thrown off the Bounty. The ulu is one of my very favorite subjects to paint because of the texture of the fruit itself and the pattern of the leaves. This was painted from a photography that I told of my friend Arna's ulu in Hakipuu on the island of Oahu.
